Additional information about Dr Tom Burchell

Dr Burchell undertook his undergraduate medical training at Imperial College School of Medicine, London where he also intercalated his BSc. He undertook his cardiology training in the North East Thames region before taking a two year period of post-graduate research at University College London investigating the use of stem cell therapy in heart attack patients. He has published his work in international peer-reviewed journals.

Dr Burchell's sub-speciality training in Coronary Intervention was undertaken at The London Heart Attack Centre. Previously, he worked for three years at the Royal United Hospital in Bath and the Bristol Heart Institute before being appointed to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton for seven years. Whilst in Taunton, he held the positions of clinical lead for cardiology and clinical director of medicine. He has since been invited back to the Royal United Hospital in Bath to develop the complex coronary intervention service.

He is involved with training junior doctors, has been an invited speaker at international cardiology conferences and is a proctor of complex coronary devices, teaching consultants across the UK.

Dr Burchell has a special interest in treating complex coronary artery disease and is fully trained and experienced in the most advanced and up to date techniques and adjunctive technologies including the treatment of chronically occluded coronary arteries, the use of rotational atherectomy and advanced intracoronary imaging.
