Mr Mohammed Elsaghir

Mr Mohammed Elsaghir is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, with a specialist interest in Minimally Invasive Surgery (Laparoscopic, Robotic, Endoscopic procedures). He sees both private and NHS patients at Sulis Hospital. Mr Elsaghir completed his Premedical Studies at the American University of Beirut. He then studied medicine at Baghdad University Medical College, graduating in 1989 with MBChB. Following graduation Mr Elsaghir joined the surgical training programme at the American University of Beirut Medical Centre; after training in general surgery he specialised in urology and graduated in 1996 with an MD. 

Mr Elsaghir joined the Royal College of Surgeons of England’s Overseas Doctors Training Programme and completed a Clinical Fellowship in uro-oncology in 1998. He furthered his training and studies in the UK and gained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, MRCS (Eng) in 2007. Mr Elsaghir gained the Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons of England in Urology FRCS (Urol) in 2008 and Fellowship of the European Board of Urology FEBU in 2009. He enrolled with the university of Strasbourg in France to gain a Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery in 2012.

Mr Elsaghir’s passion lies in minimally invasive surgery. This led him to pursue Robotic Surgery training, qualifying on the DaVinici Robotic Surgery Platform with Intuitive in 2016 and later on the Versius Robotic Platform with CMR in 2023. Since his consultant appointment he has worked to improve the urological services in Salisbury Hospital by strengthening the laparoscopic programme and later the robotic programme in collaboration with Southampton University Hospital. His special interest includes the management of urological cancers (kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate, and genital malignancies). He also developed the diagnostic pathways of prostate cancer including the local anaesthesia trans-perineal template prostate biopsies.

Mr Elsaghir is an active member of the Endo-Urology team offering endoscopic management of variety of benign and malignant conditions (prostate enlargement, bladder tumors, urological stones, obstructed kidneys).

Mr Elsaghir provides a safe, rapid, and personal services to his patients and he endeavours to design a plan of management that is tailored to their needs, ensuring that patients are well informed and involved in the decision making.

He works closely with the rest of his colleagues and is an active member if the multi-disciplinary team that meets regularly to discuss cases and exchange ideas and opinions. Mr Elsaghir is actively involved in teaching and training of surgical trainees and act ad the clinical supervisor for urology juniors.
