Honouring Our Healthcare Heroes: Sulis Hospital Annual Awards Ceremony

Sulis Hospital colleagues gathered at the Guildhall in Bath on 24th October for the hospital's annual Awards Ceremony, celebrating the outstanding compassion, commitment and excellence demonstrated across its teams.

Special Recognition Awards

The event celebrated the remarkable individuals who go above and beyond every day, demonstrating exceptional dedication, compassion and kindness.

The Special Recognition Awards were presented to team members who had been nominated by their fellow colleagues, making the honour especially meaningful. These nominations reflect the deep respect, appreciation and admiration of colleagues who witness first-hand the positive impact of their work.

In total, more than 40 awards were given, each one honouring the care, commitment and positivity that make our hospital such a special place to be. Winners were celebrated with warm words from colleagues, including:

  • Sarah - Inpatients - "Sarah consistently goes above and beyond for patients and colleagues, providing compassion and always helping the wider team."
  • Jade - Theatre scheduling - "Jade is a supportive and hard-working member of the team and can always be relied on."
  • Jane - Day surgery - "Jane is cheerful, kind, professional and approachable, consistently going above and beyond for patients and colleagues."
  • Abigail - Radiology - "Abbi is constantly pushing herself to progress in her role while supporting all her colleagues - Nothing is ever too much trouble."
  • Stephen - Porters - "Stephen can always be found helping others in the Porter team and is always positive."
  • Kelly - Housekeeping - "Kelly ensures the whole team is always supported and always has a positive attitude."

The evening underscored Sulis Hospital’s strong culture of appreciation, camaraderie and staff wellbeing. Sulis continues to outshine national UK healthcare benchmarks, driven by an exceptional 89% staff recommendation rate and standout scores in role clarity, trust and compassionate leadership.

This year's staff survey highlights an engaged workforce that feels deeply supported, a testament to its values-led leadership and supportive working environment.

Senior leaders from Sulis Hospital and the Royal United Hospitals Bath joined the evening.

Over £500 Raised for Local Charities

The evening truly came alive with the spirit of giving during our charity raffle, raising over £500 to support the incredible work of Bath Cats and Dogs Home and Second Step.

Sulis Hospital extends sincere thanks to the local businesses who generously contributed raffle prizes, including: Andersons Waste Management, Audi, Bath Cats and Dogs, Bidfood, Butcombe Brewery Co, Butterfly, Icarus Jewellery, Lilley's cider, Mercedes-Benz, RD Johns, The Forum Bath, The Somerset Toiletry, V24 Consultancy, Walter Rose & Son, West Country.

Simon Milner, Hospital Director at Sulis Hospital commented: "What a wonderful evening celebrating the team at Sulis Hospital. It was a pleasure to come together and reflect on everything that we have achieved this year, from expanding our services and welcoming new colleagues to receiving excellent patient feedback. A particular highlight this year has been Sulis becoming the only independent hospital in the UK to be awarded the prestigious Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) from the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

"Delivering outstanding care every day is a team effort, and none of this would be possible without the compassion, professionalism and collaboration of everyone here.

A huge thank you to the entire Sulis team for making this year such a success. I'm incredibly grateful for your hard work, proud of everything we've accomplished together and excited for what is to come."

Jade from the theatre scheduling team, who received an award, adds: “I am proud to receive this award and to represent the scheduling team at Sulis Hospital. It has been a challenging year, and I am incredibly grateful to the team around me for their unwavering support, encouragement, and hard work.”

The celebration comes at a time of sustained national acclaim for the hospital. Sulis has recently been named a finalist for the prestigious 2026 LaingBuisson Awards in the "Innovators and Leaders" category for Public Private Partnerships. This latest milestone follows their celebrated success from the previous year, when the hospital was named a finalist at the national Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards for "Best Elective Care Recovery Initiative" - reinforcing its reputation as a consistent double-finalist over consecutive years for its collaborative healthcare model.
