Consultant Ophthalmologist
Mr Paolo Scollo is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a sub-specialty interest in Oculoplastic Surgery. He studied Medicine at the University of Cambridge (Wolfson College) and has an MSc in Research Methods from the University of Oxford (Jesus College).
Following the completion of his basic ophthalmic training at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre as an Academic Fellow and the East of England Deanery, he completed two comprehensive fellowships in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery.
His subspecialty fellowship training was carried out under the tutelage of leaders in the field, including Cornelius René (founder member and former President of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society) and Mr Simon Woodruff at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and Mr Jonathan Norris at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
Mr Scollo has a busy NHS practice as a substantive Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Royal United Hospital Bath, where he runs a specialist oculoplastic and lacrimal service as well as seeing patients with general ophthalmic conditions. He has carried out thousands of ophthalmic operations and is known for his attentive, respectful and compassionate temperament and patient-centred approach to care.
Mr Scollo specialises in cataract surgery; the surgical management of eyelid disorders including droopy eyelid (ptosis), blepharoplasty for excess eyelid skin (dermatochalasis), eyelid malposition's (entropion and ectropion), eyelid cancer excision and reconstruction, benign eyelid lumps/bumps; surgery for watery eyes (epiphora), periocular Botox treatments, eye removal and diseases of the orbit.

He has a keen interest in research, has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and is an active teacher and supervisor of trainee Ophthalmologists.
Mr Scollo is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the British Medical Association.
Outside of work, Mr Scollo has always been an enthusiastic artist, having won a fine art scholarship to Bede’s School and is a keen tennis player, having played for East Sussex.
